Umidram, overcome with sorrow at the death of his wife, who died in labour, vowed never to see the face of his girl child. The birth of a girl child is considered to bring in the goddess of fortune, Laxmi, and Umidram was no exception, he won a lottery and became the owner of the mill from a mere mill worker. Umidram remarries to bring in more woes for Laxmi who is ill-treated by her step-mother. The only respite for Laxmi is her step-brother, Suraj, who loves and respects her. However a personal rivalry leads to a conspired accident in which Suraj losses his hand. This incident only brings in more trouble for Laxmi. Life seems to come to normal when Laxmi is married off to Amar from a neighbouring village. But when Laxmi is aborted and doctors warn about another pregnancy, which could lead to her death, all hell breaks loose. Her mother-in-law hatches plans to do away with her and get Amar married again. Laxmi finally decides to leave home… What happens next?
